And
finally, there were just 12 contestants who
could win only on the strength of one's
convictions. They represented the hopes and
dreams of a generation which would inherit
and shape the country's future. And the
contest was about who could best inspire the
youth; who could be Univercell NXg Person of
the Year.
The contest was organized to commemorate the
first anniversary of NXg, The Hindu's
supplement targeted at the youth.
After more than one nail-biting round, V.
Surabhi, a final year student of the SSN
College of Engineering, was crowned with the
coveted title. "No way," she said,
responding to the question whether she
expected to win the title along with a cash
award of Rs. 30,000 and other goodies that
included a brand new e-bike. |

"Do women really enjoy equality?" was the question
posed to Surabhi in the final round. An emphatic
'no' was her answer. Earning equally was not enough,
but equality in "thought, action and deed" was
necessary, she said. Surely, some food for thought.
Mr. Ram; N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu; N.
Ravi, Editor, The Hindu; Nirmala Lakshman, Joint
Editor, The Hindu; and D. Satish Babu, Managing
Director, Univercell, gave away the awards.
